The store is large - lots of fabric, easy to walk in between aisles, well laid out, have good assortment of fabric for backing that doesn’t need piecing - carry zippers if you’re sewing pillow covers. I'm very new to the quilting world and the ladies there were so helpful and encouraging in helping me on this new path!
This shop is generational! My oma quilted here, then my aunt, then me, then my baby sister. I sat in the back room with a bunch of ladies sipping tea, wiping sweat from there brows as they quilted away for hours on end. I still remember the encouragement they gave me along the way… and just like that, much like the name, along came MY very own quilt.
My auntie B brought both my sister and I to quilting classes when we were younger and it was such a special experience! The fact that they were able to guide me at eleven years old to make my OWN quilt alongside other (adult May I add) beginner quilters still baffles me. This store will always hold a place in my heart as I still to this day have my quilt, and my auntie b and oma both still quilt here frequently. I know all of the ladies well and they remember me! Truly feels like family.

The staff are so willing to help with everything their customers need. There is always someone who steps up to help with a pattern, a technique or a colour match. This is above and beyond what the store sells - I have asked for help with a competitor's pattern, an old pattern that doesn't make sense to me, a colour match for fabric I didn't purchase there. They all greet customers with a smile and leave us alone to browse if that's all we want.

I was looking for something very specific to make a backpack for my great niece. I never really expected to find it but when I asked Terry if there was such a thing, within seconds it was in my hands.
Material I wanted was sold out. They contacted me personally and helped me choose something similar that I could use. They filled my order and I received my very beautiful fabric and started my quilt. They care about their customers.
They helped me find the right kind of pattern for a container so I could make a pencil case for the grandkids. They also helped me on a border issue I was having cutting the fabric.
I sometimes have trouble distinguishing between black and very dark navy…when I wasn’t sure which of several fabric suggestions were the best choice for my project, the person serving me went to the shop’s “back office” and retrieved their resident colour expert…she knew right away which was the best match…it was such a relief…I really appreciated having that expert opinion!

Before Covid, Along Came Quilting, Calgary, provided their classroom for our group to have monthly sew days. We are looking forward to having these once again. A day with the ladies is always too much fun — both with our group and their staff.
Roxanne Nelson is a quilt artist who has taught collage quilting classes. I’ve taken 2 of them and I’d love to take more. She’s amazing!
I took a beginners quilt class at Along Came Quilting while on my breast cancer journey 11 years ago and fell in love with the craft and buying fabric from this store.
Finding the quilt pattern on line in the store for me when I realized I had misread the yardage needed.
There are too many to list - every class, every shopping day, every interaction is special.
I met Linda on a garden tour over fuschias and tree peonies. Soon after she began working at Along Came Quilting. A few years later she owned the shop. It is my favorite shop. I am currently making a quilt called pieced peony. Yesterday, I sent my husband to her shop with a list of things I needed. He found everything on the list and came home happy with stories of chats with staff and customers.
One staff member provided step by step instruction, so that I could complete a challenging paper piecing project- in their "quilt along" sessions.
I had a major health issue which affected my mental wellbeing. All Along Came Quilting became one of my supporting partners in addition to family and friends. Whether they knew it or not, every trip I made to there was a struggle to interact. I always left feeling inspired to carry on. Now I am doing much better, and I pay it forward by either introducing quilting as a therapeutic activity or I make quilts for those who are struggling. At the heart of quilting is a community of support and Linda’s staff At Along Came Quilting exemplify this.
It was a small helpful hint for working on your patterns, how to make a template for the 2 1/2 inch circle. It was simple but very helpful.
I have difficulty imagining what the finished quilt will look like. Choosing fabric is the hardest part of quilting for me! But the staff are so patient and pull numerous options for me that they feel would work together. We discuss the pros and cons and I feel like I make good and informed choice with their help! They have helped me with countless quilts over the years!
I live some distance away so I use online ordering. Sharla makes the process easy.
I once ran out of the backing fabric for a quilt I was making, the bolt was sold out and I was so upset with myself. One of the ladies remembered seeing some remnants in the back so she went and searched until she found fabric that ended up being enough to piece the back together and add a strip to a pillow case, above and beyond service.

Sharla was very patient with me as a new customer. Delivery was fast and I was able to track it. I could not find this particular item anywhere around me but they had it in stock. I only shop online as I live two provinces away from Along Came Quilting. One order came in a Van Gogh "Starry Nights" package. I e-mailed my delight with receiving my order as well as the special packaging. Alone Came Quilting e-mailed right back and said I'd made their day. That is fantastic customer service and brings happiness to all.
I loved having a tour of the whole place even though I had been there many times before... The staff just love working there which is so good to see! Just became my favorite quilting store.

I belong to a very special charity, they allow us to use their great classroom for our “sew days” where we learn & sew for our charity sale ……every “sew day” is special.
Another day was their excellent help choosing fabrics for an oriental inspired quilt for a special quilt for my grandson & his fiancé….what a day that was……so much fun & joy.
My mother decided last year in June to make 4 Christmas quilts. One for each grandchildren. Mom had 4 panels but needed ideas and material to complete each quilt (each having to be a different design). After discussions with Kim (staff), mom and I decided on designs and Kim drew out decision, noted material sizes and locations for each quilt so mom had the steps noted when she went home. The end result were 4 happy adult grandchildren getting original, Christmas quilts at Christmas 2022 from their excited grandmother. Thanks Kim!
Colour suggestions for a quilt.
I order online and my order is sent to me. I had a pattern I wanted to make and the shop picked out all the fabrics I needed and sent them to me. I live 7 hours from the shop. I do not shop anywhere else but “Along came Quilting”. Best shop ever.

I was invited to a staff retreat one weekend, taking the spot of someone who couldn’t make it last minute. It was SO much fun, those gals are great to hang out with, so many laughs, it felt like a big happy family.
When I brought in a quilt top and needed to find fabric for the backing Teri had to show my quilt to everyone.
Every time I come here is a special time.
Had no clue as to how to put some blocks together. Took some of the blocks into Along Came Quilting and Kim help with sizing, sashing, corner blocks. Gave me choices of colors i could use. Quilt is now complete and it is beautiful.

Making my first quilt! Like I said my auntie took me and I was in a class of all adult wonderful ladies at eleven years old and they guided me the entire way through it! I still have my first quilt with a note on it that has the date I made it. So special.
My daughters didn't have any interest in quilts but ageed to go as a group as I convinced them they could not go in this store without finding exciting fabric. We spent hours and they all had trouble limiting purchases for me to make them something. Great family outing. My new happy place!

Before Covid I took classes as well as attended social days in the classroom; the teachers I consider my friends as well as advisors when I have a quilting issue. Going into the shop its like being with friends and family. Every moment to this day is like being with good friends - we laugh and sometimes we have sad moments; we help with charities that help others at the end of the day I have always felt welcomed.
The staff is friendly and helpful. You always have new lines of fabrics to buy. Love that your books are reasonably priced. Love that you are expanding the store.

As a new quilter years ago, they were willing to spend hours helping me to choose fabric for a Jinny Beyer project. I learned so much that day.
I do art quilting and I was struggling to find a fabric to depict ocean water. We looked for a long time . I was about to leave when another staffer who had quietly overheard our search conversation went to the back room and pulled out a new fabric not yet even on the shelves. "Might this help?" she asked. It was perfect! That's good service.
The helpful staff aided me with getting coordinating fabrics for two “Frozen” panels to make quilts for my granddaughters. That was about seven years ago, but they still talk about it, and ask after the girls.
The wonderful sew days before the Covid. The talk and sewing was priceless. Miss them a lot.

When first new to quilting, staff took time to help choose fabric for borders and backing. Wonderful eye for colour selection etc. staff are always very encouraging and complimentary of your quilting project.
I go to several fabric stores to shop for quilt fabrics. This store is by far my favorite. Staff are very knowledgeable on quilting & are always happily available to offer suggestions.
I sew custom bags and the ladies at the shop have always been incredibly helpful in providing their thought on fabric choices. I brought in two young ladies just coming into their teens, so they could pick fabric for their own bags. Watching how the staff kindly directed the 2 young ladies towards better complimentary fabric options was incredible. Never discounting the choices the girls made but kindly showing them different options that were better without discounting the girls thoughts was beautiful to see. Their encouragement was amazing and drew out the girls’ individual creativity. One of the best moments I have ever had shopping for fabric. It was more than a purchase but truly a memory building experience. Now that I have moved away from Calgary I drive 3 hours to come to Along Came Quilting because of how they go beyond just selling fabric. They create memories that I cherish!!

I've had many wonderful experiences of looking for specific fabrics/colours, where I received help from Betty, Terry, Kim, & all the wonderful staff at ACQ. They are all very knowledgeable & friendly, always making my visits to the store fun & successful. Just the other day I was at their newly expanded store for the first time, which is incredibly beautiful, bright & inspiring....& as I stood there admiring it & breathing it all in, I got goosebumps! It's a must see to visit this gorgeous quilt shop!
Close to tears, I came in to the store on a busy day with a nearly-completed quilt that had colours not quite right. One staff member laid it out on a cutting table and started searching for fabric matches. Over the course of the next 60+ minutes, various staff members checked out my quilt and went in search of fabric for me. Did I mention they were all busy? It was as if it became a game and their cheerful attitude infected other customers who joined in the hunt. Wow.
Kim-who is a EXCELLENT teacher taught me how to machine appliqué-which I had feared before-not now! ALWAYS welcome by her and the other ladies!

A few years ago I participated in a BOTM program at ACQ. I brought the completed quilt in to the shop to show them and received lovely comments. Linda Goa, the store owner, asked whether the store could display the quilt for a few months, and of course I said yes (what a lovely compliment!) After a few months I picked up the quilt and Linda gave me a VERY generous gift certificate for my troubles (what troubles for heaven’s sake?) I looked at the amount and before I could thank her a comment popped out of me: “Good god, you have to eat you know!” After we had a good laugh I redeemed my quilt (and yes, remembered to thank Linda!) ACQ continues to be my favourite quilt shop.
I visited the store looking for my next project. K suggested that I might want to try One Block Wonder. She brought out 2 mirrors, then showed on numerous different fabrics how it would work. 30 min later I had a good understanding of the concept. 2 days later I returned with some fabric from my stash to discuss what she thought would work and what wouldn't, Was looking for fabric to match a horse panel and asked if they thought it would match what I had found online or if they seen something better. They went beyond my expectation and pulled a bunch and sent me pictures of what they thought.
Terrie was absolutely the perfect quilting fairy for me one day in particular when I was having trouble picking out a pattern and accent fabric to go with a jelly roll I had bought because the jelly roll was perfect. Finding perfect to go with perfect took ages and I do appreciate the time she spent and her expertise. Finished quilt was a huge hit with recipient.
Terri was super helpful today. She took the time to help me "audition" fabrics for my quilt. It was greatly appreciated, as I am new to matching fabrics.

I took a friend who asked me to make a t-shirt quilt for her husband's birthday, she knows nothing about sewing. We had been to other stores that had all been helpful, but Along Came Quilting had the layout and displays and enthusiastic staff that made it so easy for us to pick the extra fabric and get ideas. They are consistently great. My friend felt at home in an alien environment.
I had a job that was very stressful. Quilting is my downtime and a chance to be away from the demands of people. Shopping at "Along Came Quilting" was a lunchtime escape one day. Everyone was so helpful and friendly, it felt like a welcoming neighborhood. Unbeknown to the staff, they reset my mood for the day and I went back to work ready to be friendly and patient to those that demanded my energies at work, just like the store staff had done for me. A little kindness goes much further than we sometimes realize!
I did not shop in person but rather by phone, looking to upgrade my sew easy table. They made it easy and the order arrived fast and accurate.
Always friendly when I wanted to knowing something and answer me right a way back. From all those years I buy fabrics at “along came quilting” and mailing with them it became a second quilt family to me. What I keep as a special treasure.

I was making choosing fabrics for a stained glass applique angel. Staff was so very helpful in suggesting and helping me choose fabrics to co-ordinate with the lovely fabric that was to be the focal/anchor fabric.
When I was desperate for a particular fabric and they came through with the perfect quantity.
While enjoying all the Kaffe Fassett fabrics, met a brand new quilter also looking. She was so excited about learning how to quilt and all the beautiful fabrics. Told her the staff was always so helpful and encouraged her to talk with them.
I needed a full bolt of fabric and they were happy to make sure i could get it. , Just felt welcomed when I walked in the front door.
During the pandemic, when just about everything was closed, their online shop was open for business. If I couldn’t find what I wanted on the website, Linda tracked it down and ordered it for me and the mailed it directly to me. A lot of stores will just say we don’t have that item in stock, but not Linda! She understands how important quilty items are to us quilters! She’s the best!

I made a double wedding ring quilt. Kim spent over an hour helping me pick colours and it is gorgeous.
When I got home from the hospital after surgery, Linda sent my fabrics by mail so that I would have them when I was ready to sew again.

Was looking to do some free motion quilting. Staff were very helpful in selecting tracing paper and also pencils that fade away.
I live in a remote area and would be lost without Along Came Quilting. They send my orders so quickly it's shocking. Customer service like this doesn't happen very often. These folks are positive and obviously enjoy what they do. They are my connection to the magic of creating.

After taking a class for Kaleidoscope quilting I was asked if I would allow a photo to be placed on their website of my quilt. What a wonderful gift to me, as I have only become a better quilter because of their classes and their shop.
I needed a certain piece of Tula Pink fabric which was 3 collections ago and I found it here.
I phoned the store and still got great customer service. We text back and forth and I sent pictures of my quilt in progress. The employee helped me with quilting ideas, thread colours and more.
I loved the owner's emails throughout the pandemic. Her first priority was the health and safety of her staff and clients. I appreciated her compassionate and common sense approach to a situation none of us had anticipated. Mostly, I valued that she valued the well being of people before profits - a bold and gutsy move for a small business owner.
I brought my adult son for his input since I was making the quilt for him. The lady helping us included him in the process of finding fabrics, asking his opinions/preferences. When we left, about an hour later, we were both pleased with the fabric we had purchased and my son said he had a new appreciation on what was involved in buying the fabric, and how very helpful the staff was. He felt comfortable and welcomed.
Every moment is special in this shop. The energy and joy the ladies show when you ask for help. The experience is worth go to this store alone compared to the other stores in Calgary.

I placed an order tuesday, then wednesday placed another order. I was refunded the price of shipping for my first order and the 2 orders were combined and arrived in less than 2 days. My fabric is beautiful and Im thrilled to have found this shop. I will be placing more orders.
