Our store is heavily stocked with batik and bali fabrics. They are my favorite fabrics to work with, and since I’m doing the buying, I get have lots on the shelf.
I was approached by Cador Textile/Parkside Fabrics in March to design a quilt for Batik by Mirah for the Spring Quilt Market. The following 4 weeks were a blur for Pat A. and me as I wrote the pattern and she pieced the top. It went to Jane G. for custom quilting, and we were all very proud when the quilt was finished. It belongs to the distributor now, but we’ll be making a store sample when the bolts arrive and we sell the kits.
For some reason I couldn’t get the song “Come Fly with Me” sung by Frank Sinatra out of my mind for days as I worked on this project, so I ended up naming it “Let’s Fly Away” as that was the main lyric going over and over in my brain. (Am I the only one who gets songs stuck in the mind for days? Even when I get up in the night, the song is still playing.)
So here is a picture of Let’s Fly Away hanging in our classroom right before it flew away. It’s a big one – 80” X 96”.
And here are pictures of the booth at Spring Market. There are some beautiful quilts, and I love the clean, sophisticated look of the booth.
Yep, I’m smiling. We only get to brag so often. And once again, the song is playing.
