Guess what I started over the holidays:
This is block 1 from the new Spring Bouquet Block of the Month program which we are running at the store. All the batik applique pieces are laser cut and pre-fused with Steam-a-Seam 2 fusible web. This means I didn’t have to do any tracing on fusible web, ironing of the web onto the fabrics, and cutting out of the individual shapes. So it is quite a time-saver from the traditional method of fusible applique.
Below is a picture of a typical package for a single block, as well as some of the shapes. I left the camera lens in so you can get a feel for the size of the shapes (and the perfection of the circles!):
This is a picture of the complete quilt as designed by Edyta Sitar.
What you will notice is that I didn’t use either of the backgrounds that are suggested by Edyta. Here is a picture of what she suggested.
And while either of these would look very nice indeed, I personally love the drama of dark backgrounds. So I chose a dark purple with a flower batik stamp.
I priced our program without the background, and that way you get to choose whatever fabric you like! Kim is using Confetti, an RJR basic, and it is beautiful:
The price of this Block of the Month is $29.99 per month for 13 months. In the first month you will receive the pattern and the first block package of the applique Silhouettes. In months 2-12, you will receive one package of Silhouettes (the pre-cut, pre-fused batik applique pieces) to complete a block or one of the borders. In the final 13th month, you will receive the last border package of the applique Silhouettes and a pack of charm squares to use when making the checkerboard inner border.
I’ll be doing some follow-up blog postings with tips and tricks on this program. So keep watching!
