"My current favourite sewing accessory are Tulip’s Sashiko Needles Assorted (Short). Sashiko is a tradition Japanese method of mending clothing with a visible running stich and fabric scraps. I am new to Sashiko and have had great time exploring the art. All you need to get started are the Sashiko needles. They are longer and thicker than the typical needle with eyes large enough to accommodate traditional sashiko thread. A strong needle is essential to prevent bending or breaking during the unique stitching technique where a whole row of stiches is carried on the needle before the thread is pulled through. The Tulip sashiko needles are sharp and highly polished which allows them to travel through fabric, even denim, easily. The have a beveled eye to make threading simple. I’ve been using Presencia Perle Cotton (which ACQ carries) because of the array of colours and the slight sheen.
Once you get going, ACQ carries several inspiring books, patterns and accessories. It makes a great summer project you can do on your lap in the backyard. Look for me in the store in my Sashiko jeans!"
